With how old the book is (published in 1992), it’s amazing that Neil Stephenson was able to coin so many amazing terms that are common place today (he literally made up avatar What?!). While the writing wasn’t his best the story was enjoyable, I’d recommend reading it.

I did not like the book at first. Then half way through the book, I could not put it down. I was reading anytime and everywhere. I love the concept. I wish the ending gave us what each of the characters did after saving the world.

What seems as a futuristic disjointed story rapidly comes together into a coherent storyline with links to the beginning of humankind, leaving you hooked and unable to put it down. Stephenson has crafted an exciting action thriller in the middle of a sci fi setting with just the right amounts of character development.

When someone recommends a book by the pool at a Cabo resort, I tend to believe and read. It was a good decision again. Some of the book was a bit kitschy, like the name of one character Hiro Protagonist. Guess what his role in the book was. That being said it was entertaining.

I thought the world building of this novel was incredible. The story was fun and the way Neal Stephenson lays out the mystery makes you want to keep reading. In the end the story wraps up so quickly it almost makes you wish there was more.

This is a great book. I enjoyed it the first time and will end up reading it again. Neal Stephenson is one of the best authors out there.

A must read for fans of anything cyberpunk. If you like the well fleshed out and ponderous nature of Blade Runner, or the literature of Philip K. Dick, this is likely for you.

I've read many top 100 sci-fi book, other sci-fi, all Steven King books, and other types of reads but I couldn't continue at about 10% through. I disliked the writing style immensely, nothing caught my interest, and I felt like I was waisting my time and getting angrier doing it. Wish I could be more positive but I've read some really poor books but continued to the end anyway.

A book that evolves quickly but doesn't teach the reader too early about backgrounds. Predominantly thrilling, but in some places a bit too much. The latter, however, does not diminish the enjoyment of reading. The ending may seem a bit rushed, but it is nevertheless convincing. All in all a book worth reading for friends of dystopian tech novels!

Software, hardware, Ashera Goddess of sex, Hacking. Religious technology in a virtual world with glass knives dueling with Japanese blades . Moby Dick and Zombies. What’s not to like? Good theological fiction with a touch of madness.

It's just so chaotic though. I wish there were a double length version of this to space out the infodumps and make the plot more explicit. As it stands I had the sensation big chunks had been torn from the story.
