The humor and writing pace makes this book hard to put down, and yet its funny moments never detract from the bizarre and interesting 90s inspired cyberpunk world that is created.

Been hearing a lot about this book and it's opening chapter, so I tried it out. Bored me to tears. Just finished it because I wanted to give it a chance but it never recovered.

Mr Stephenson, I hope I got your attention. Your writing, as all know, is stellar. But this amazon rendition is terrible, you should be alarmed at the crude attempt at ocr, seemingly from a used copy of your book. Passages underlined. Typo errors. And top it all off, my reader skips back to the amazon store at random passages in the book. Bait and switch. The sample did not do this. Want my money back.

This book is completely bonkers in a good cyberpunkish-action sort of way. It also provides an interesting take on the future of free-market capitalism in America, and in so doing, poses a fun comment (critique?) of the future shown in other cyberpunk stories.

Excellent concept and an interesting "franchise" version of a dystopian post-American landscape. However the story completely fell apart at the end and there was absolutely no resolution to the storyline. It felt like the author literally just forgot to finish the book.

Snow Crash is full of action, of thought, of philosophico-religious ruminations on language, meaning, and love. I was surprised when I first read it, and find more surprises each time I read it. Stephenson's writing is phenomenal. The plot is fun and terrific and complex without being overwrought. And it's just fun. I could go on, but you should just read it. READ IT

Had no problem holding my interest. Also some fascinating ideas and little tidbits of stuff to research should you choose to.

I haven't read anything of Stephenson's since Seveneves. Before that my only other exposure was with Anathem. With those two books as my previous experience I was a little hesitant to dive into one of Neal's massive tomes with endless paragraphs of info dump and esoteric scientific explanations. I was PLEASENTLY surprised to find none of that. Yes, there are large chunks of Stephenson's verbose prose. But while action packed and with an amazing world that only Stephenson can build this was still "light" compared to those novels. A semi-dystopian future where the US is chopped into different enclaves and the mafia are the good guys this story blends real world action with VR/Matrix/Ready Player One simulated drama.

I quite liked Snow Crash and moved through it quickly. A concept-driven novel, parts of it brought to mind the movie, Arrival, which I had recently seen. To be clear, there are no aliens to speak of here. But in addition to the cyber elements explored in Stephenson's treatment of the Matrix-like Metaverse, the book looks at language and how it may interact with and influence the human brain. Unfortunately, occasionally thin and transparent plot devices slightly undermine the ambitious concepts. This is not to say that the plot isn't compelling. It is. The dystopian physical world portrayed in the book seems to be more or less our present day, as imagined twenty-five years ago, and is wildly imaginative. And the key characters moving through it are interesting, if almost Manichaean superhero/villain treatments. All the above notwithstanding, Stephenson's book is quite good. Rather than being major handicaps, the occasional hiccups in the plot were really only justification for my giving the book 4 stars rather than 5.

Although it was written awhile ago - it still holds together well for a possible near future for America. Very well written - its a crazy wild ride with Hiro Protagonist and the gang. I'm not going to bore you with my poor writing trying to try and convey whats in the book. If you enjoy sci-fi action? Then just get the book and read it already. You won't be let down.

Having read and enjoyed many of Neal S. books I decided to read this earlier book. I had just finished SevenEves and enjoyed it. I had noticed when I mention Neal Stephenson to readers the most commonly read book they submit is 'Snow Crash'. Figured it must be good so picked it up and loaded it to my Kindle. I was disappointed, although realizing the age of the book, thought it pretty good for its time. I think Neal's writing has improved notable since he wrote this book. It did seem a lot like a graphic novel, apparently the original intent for the effort.

I was originally steered to this book by a bookstore clerk who heard me raving about how much I liked Arrival, and mostly because of the linguistic science behind it, and she said this one should keep my interest. At first it was slow and I could not see the resemblance but then soon enough, it became an enthralling mash of history, linguistics, religion, science and brash detective science. It was very well written and kept me on edge to the end.
