Astounding

I really enjoyed this book. The level of world building is fantastic. The idea of individual neighbourhoods becoming their own nation states is interesting, but that’s just one of the wild predictions made by this masterpiece. Any knowledge you have of the Adam and Eve myth will be richly rewarded as well.

What else is new?

I found the book interesting enough to keep reading. It wasn't stupid. The story seemed disjointed. The hero role is split between a skateboard messenger and a hacker who finds interesting stuff and sells it. (Sort of a cyberpunk version of a reality TV show about trashpicking.)
The interesting stuff he finds makes up the majority of the book. There's a lot of cool sounding hardware.
Character development? Meh.

Still fun after all these years

I first read this book 20 odd years ago, whole some the stuff that was edgy then is kind of pedestrian today, it's still a great read.

This is one of the best shows on TV

I wasn't sure how Vince Gilligan would sustain this character from the brilliant "Breaking Bad." After four seasons I can say that Gilligan is a master and Bob Odenkirk gives such an extraordinary performance as Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman and imbues him with such humanity that he breaks your heart while he's doing the sleaziest, most unethical things. All the performance are stellar. The dark humor is smart and in its own way quite insightful re the human condition. I love it.

Best sci-fi ever

Mind blowing tech comes together with oldest stories of the world in this mind bending work of art! I can’t believe how this was written in 1992.

Weird Religious and Sexually Transmitted Disease Rants

There's only two novels that I've had to stop reading in my life, this is one of them. This book begins to take an odd slant on religion midway through and consistently tries to make analogies about STD's. It's a strange combination of uncomfortable and boring. Stay away from this book if your looking for a fun and interesting read.

A must read

The first few chapters were rough, I was taken aback by the writing style and made up vocabulary, which is unique to say the least; however, you get used to it pretty quickly. I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, it was recommended after I finished Ready Player One (which is a fun book but very mediocre writing). It was immediately obvious to me how intelligently written, thought out, and unique this book was after a few chapters. It's one of the most interesting, thought provoking books I've ever read. some of the tech jargon is dated, but otherwise the concepts are solid.

I would recommend to any Sci-Fi, cyberpunk, and history buffs

Entertaining and it holds up

A good, entertaining sci-fi read with a great sense of style to it. There's virtual-reality, predictions of what future America might look like, sword fights, and more. In spite of being written in the early '90s, even the tech stuff seems to hold up, which tells me that Mr. Stephenson was pretty forward-thinking in that regard.

Fascinating - but difficult

Stephenson is known for writing books that impart a lot of technical information amidst lively stories. Snow Crash is no exception. The underlying thesis - an ancient virus that is capable of infecting the language center of the brain - could have been an Indiana Jones or a Robert Langdon story in other author's hands. But it starts out reading like William Gibson and eventually takes a turn toward Tom Robbins. Have I dropped enough literary references?

I do have to say that it took me quite a while to read this novel. Some of that may be my fault as I was dealing with personal issues. But I do feel that it took longer than usual for the novel to shape into the story it tells. I was about 50% through before it became apparent that something was going on besides the unfolding action story. I was about 75% through before Stephenson started to reveal the connection between the story and the religious/mythological history that underlies it. This left me confused for the longest time.

This is not a book for the timid reader. But if you are a fan of Stephenson or Tom Robbins you will be rewarded by the time the novel ends.

nice pulp ficy

Early Stephenson, liked the action and the characters.

The core plot is a lot of hot air jand waving, even for science fiction, but it is done with a gusto, so you just enjoy it.

Fantastic!

Great blend of fast-paced futuristic action and philosophical ruminations. Can't believe they've never managed to make a movie out of this.

An ok book

It's really creative, but very convoluted at times... It's a good read, but it boga down a bit at most parts.

More, please, Neal!

My favorite new (to me) author! I can't get enough of Neal Stephenson. Snow Crash is a brain stretcher with some real humor and character development. It's a fun ride that will leave you thinking and comparing ideas to real-world innovations.
