Rendell always surprises me with her surprise ending, and dark stories. I have read almost all of her books, and look forward to the next one.

Always enjoy her books. Have all of her Inspector Wexford novels. Her writing reads like poetry. Lovely. Characters are life like and believable.

A good story in completely the same style and genre as all the other Wexford novels, so if you like them, you'll like this.

I am a Ruth Rendell fan. She continues to write a solid, thought provoking story. Inspector Wexford remains an interesting character.

A typically well-plotted Inspector Wexford mystery. Only wish Ruth Rendell would write more of this series. Very Enjoyable reading experience

I like anything by Ruth Rendell. This had a more updated, modern feel to it with Inspector Wexord's travels. Fairly predictable though.

Ruth Rendell is probably my favorite mystery author (though her work transcends the genre), and her Inspector Wexford series is a standout in the field. This worthy addition to the canon shares Rendell's mastery of prose style, her insights into human nature, and her clever plot twists. As usual, she plays fair, sprinkling all the clues in among the finely drawn details of her tale, but expertly using misdirection to keep you guessing until the end (or close to). Wexford himself is a wonderful character, neither hardboiled nor introverted, but a family man and a good cop with an education, keen intellect, and empathy for others. He is a breath of fresh air in a genre too often dominated by violence. For this series alone (as well as her considerable body of other work) she deserved to become Dame Rendell. If you've never read any of the Wexford books, I would recommend starting with one of the earlier ones; nevertheless, this novel stands on its own and is thoroughly enjoyable even if you are new to the series.

I have read so many of Ruth Rendell's books, she never disappoints me. Each one you start out wondering how she will tie all the characters together, but she does it so smooth incredible.

I kept reading the book though finding it slow in places. The inspector travelled to a lot of places looking for info into solving the murder. The description of places was good though a bit drawn out. It was an easy book to read as in context.

The characters were not as developed and the mystery was not as complex as in her previous books. Ok read at best.

Enjoyed the book as a bit of 'light' reading to fill up a few hours of relaxing. Thought it was slow and rather boring.

This is my second time reading the Inspector Wexford series. It's still captivating and thrilling. Her work stands the test of time.

It just wasn't up to her usual sneakiness I saw it coming. I am still a fan of ruth so I'll keep on. Chandler Smith.

Somehow I've missed the Inspector Wexford mysteries. While I enjoyed the characters,I find long denoumonts tedious. When one character has to spend five pages exposing everything we the readers missed, it means the author couldn't find a way to make the plot elegant. I'll try one more Wexford to see if this sort of plot is an aberration or a standard device of the author's.

I have read almost everyone of Ruth Rendell's books. They are all excellent and this one was no exception. As usual it is very hard to guess who the culprit is until the very end

The customary entertaining and attention-holding mystery from Ruth Rendell. The rather bizarre characters lead one to wonder if there really are people like that in our world.

Excellent tome by an excellent writer. Can't go wrong with anything she writes whether it's by Ruth Rendell or her pen name which at the moment escapes me. Check out stopyourekillingme.com.
