| 探偵・明智小五郎（あけち こごろう）vs. 執念深い怪賊〈魔術師〉の、丁々発止の大活劇。先の展開が読めてしまう場面もありましたけれど、予想以上に面白かったです。 この作品で第一番目に引きつけられたのは、賊を追う側の明智と、追われる賊側の娘・文代（ふみよ）との間に生まれるロマンスでした。徐々に惹かれ合っていく二人に、殊に文代さんの健気な姿に、いつしか声援を送っていたのでありました。 第二番目に印象に残ったのは、じりじりと恐怖が高まっていく幾つかの場面におけるスリリング感でした。時計塔の場面、美人解体術の場面、地下室の穴蔵の場面などは、わけてもゾクゾクしましたね。エドガー・アラン・ポーの短篇を想起させる乱歩翁の筆の運びも生き生きとして、さすが上手いもんやわ思いました。 あ、そうだ。本作品の中に出てくる言葉の読み方をめぐって、大槻ケンヂさんが「獄門舟（船）問題」と題した文章を書いています。 『本の雑誌 2023年8月号（第482号）』（本の雑誌社）の90、91頁に載ってます。実は、この文章を読んで、本書を手にとったような次第。関心のある方は、ご一読あれ。 『講談倶楽部』1930年（昭和五年）7月号～1931年5月号まで連載された作品。 章タイトルが、なかなかにキャッチーでキマってます。以下に記しておきます。 | ||||

| 小林少年たちが船の上で肩を組んで声高らかに歌う、応援部隊の到着に、バンザイ、バンザイ、昭和カラーがバンバン出てます。 今回の登場怪人、怪物数は半端ないですね。 舞台が海で、40面相の脇役怪人が楽しいです。 塔上の奇術師、宇宙怪人、青銅の魔人、電人Mはメインの怪人が好きでした。怪人を中心に物語が展開しますが、〔小学生の時に読みました〕今回のパターンも良いです。 | ||||

| 45年ぶりの江戸川乱歩。 少年向けでなく、大人向けの小説は初めてだったが、やはり面白かった。 話に無駄や間がなく、ぐいぐい引きこまれる展開は圧巻。 多少の無理な設定も吹っ飛ぶ。挿絵も凄くいい。 挿絵は当時のものとのことで、値千金。 | ||||

| Moreover, everything else you would find in a marsh excellent excellent book!!! I enjoyed watching the romance blossom between the two main characters even with the baggage they had to overcome. This is a must read and I give it a ten out of ten! I chose this book out of the 6 options for the Kindle First Reads Program. I didn't expect to like it thinking it was a fantasy based book which is not my usual choice but the others did not catch my interests at all | ||||

| This was an excellent read I was just going through books on my Kindle app and tried a sample of this book thought it sounded interesting and bought it I can only echo what other reviewers have already said. This is one of the best books I've read in a long time, certainly this year. Can you tell, I absolutely loved it! Can't wait to see what the author comes up with next! | どんでん返しの連続の大活劇を縦軸に、明智小五郎が二人の美女に想いを寄せられて、ついに将来の妻に出会う恋愛物語を横軸に、これまた恋愛から発した大復讐劇が展開します。結末を予想することは難しく、快く裏切られます。エロチックなシーンもあります。乱歩のことですから、細かなところでロジックが合わないこともありますが、ご愛敬。あらすじを調べたり、紹介文を詳しく読んだりせず、とにかく読んでください。なかなかの大作です。満足できます。なお、あるシーンは、ポーの「メールストロムの旋渦」に取材したな、と思われます。 | ||||
