There are two or three incomprehensible sections in this book. I was delighted to finish it and I did stick with it till the end. Some of the earlier action sequences were interesting but the whole religion bits were awful. Good luck.

This book has an interesting, fast paced story, and cool characters, but what blows the mind is all the inventive concepts. Plus, it's always fun to read a 30 year old sci-fi book, eg. the description of how to connect to the metaverse by dialing in from a coin-operated public booth. All in all, I think this is one of the genre defining books, a true masterpiece.

What's to say? It's Snow Crash, the book that comes the term metaverse. Read it. If you've already read it, read it again.

The story was moving along 125 pages in and then it got confusing. I quickly asked myself what was the point of this and moved on to another book. I commend the futuristic insights of this book.

A Dismal view of the future but clever in the author’s anticipation of future technologies. I might read it again.

Definitely what I imagine the metaverse would be. Dystopian world but probably where we would end up if we don't course correct soon. Neal Stephenson is going to be an author I'll watch out for when looking for my next Sci-fi/Fantasy read.

Mark Zuckerberg read this book and based the entire future of Facebook (Meta) on trying to make it real. Fair enough this book makes the future sound pretty cool.

I am a casual reader and I’ve never had so much much fun reading a novel. This is just an amazing book

Even though I am an avid sci-fi reader and great fan of e.g. William Gibson's cyberpunk, I had not heard of this book before. The recommendation came from not lesser man than Mark Zuckerberg and his shiny new Meta company which ostensibly took inspiration from this book. Well, I was not inspired. This book is one of my worst sci-fi experiences ever. The characters are schematic, the plot line is a set of random jumps from one bloody carnage to another and often the book reads as a technical specification of this Metaverse thingy which is not nearly as radical as Gibson's world. The extensive linkage to the author's version of the Sumerian religion is really painful. I read it through but the time was wasted.

I like Stevenson. I say “like” because he’s a mixed bag. There are a couple books of his that I absolutely love (reamde, seveneves) some I hate (quicksilver) and some in the middle (cryptonomicon). Snow Crash is in the middle but leaning toward hate. It’s interesting to read now because he was prescient about so many aspects of technology, and the book moves along well in that easy style Stevenson has as a writer. His description of the future is entertaining, but only for about 10 minutes, and then it gets tedious because it’s so far-fetched. If it was a short story like a Philip K Dick I probably would’ve loved it, but to slog through such a long book with a concept that becomes so tedious was just too much. And the book doesn’t seem to go anywhere. Not really. So, I wanted to like this book, and I got something out of reading it, but I can’t say I liked it and I found it very frustrating.

The book reads like a Tumblr Fanfiction where the MC is "THE BESTEST EVER AND NOT BEING WHITE MAKES HIM EVEN BETTER!" It's clear that the writer has never been outside of big cities and only knows about the world from movies. Race was brought in at every single sentence. "White people bad! Non-White people oppressed!" Like seriously!? The author is clearly racist and ignorant. I haven't even gotten through the whole book yet but I can already tell this was a waste of money. I cannot believe this trash is so highly rated... but then again the people who probably think this is a quality book probably have pronouns in their twitter profile. The female is named Y.T. and I literally thought that was meaning "Whitey" and the author says some crap like: "People of color always think it's 'Whitey'..." What god-awful garbage.. Brain-dead writing, trash, no point to the story. The only thing that is interesting is that it was written in the 90s because I could have swore by all the buzzwords and identity politics that this was written in 2016.

And way better than the film; which was okay to be fair. But, read the book, it's first class.

I liked the first half of the novel but the last half offered no new ideas. There is no need for it to be so long. Too many chase scenes and I’m mister badass taking millions of villains.

This is supposed to be "classic" science fiction from the 90s. In that respect it has aged quite well. But beware the author equates religion with a mental virus. Catholicism was "highjacked" with the empty tomb. If you can ignore that, the sex scene with a 15 year old is truly disturbing. I like my science fiction with morals and this book is truly amoral.

This novel seems especially weird when read in 2021 by a person is roughly the same age as the make protagonist. Hiro , by the way, has an awesomely literary name, which may have kept me reading in the early pages that I found a little tedious. Readers must be careful not to read too much of this as truth, especially those lacking in both historical and religious education as some concepts are presented to fit the plot. The inclusion of the two "romantic" plotlines are important vehicles but not well rendered as regards to emotion, although, maybe that is de rigueur in the metaverse .
