| This is actually worth 4 1/2 stars. I love how Ruth Rendell creates claustrophobic atmospheres and fills them with people who may not be very likeable but who you still care about and don't want to see come to grief, even though this being Rendell, you know that is going to happen. The ending was really good. A very satisfying read. | ||||

| Good book keeping you guessing with its twists and turns to the very last page. But spoiled by the badly copied wording and dreadful punctuation. Poor Ruth. | ||||

| Great story and loved the way the two threads to the book eventually merge. But what a pity that my enjoyment was somewhat spoiled by random capital letters, hyphens and commas appearing all over the place for no reason whatsoever. Awful proof reading! | ||||

| I found Rendell's usual array of quirky characters here but for once none were appealing, none drew much interest for me, made me want to read more. I found the novel somewhat wordy and wondered if Rendell were using padding to make it a novel. The story with its plot twists might have made a really good short story although I felt even the resolution predictable. | ||||

| Much as I like Ruth Rendells books this was one I did not enjoy. From start to finish it did not inspire me and close to the end I gave up. The characters and the storyline were hard to follow. Maybe I will give it another go sometime. | ||||
