| This is a story of an encounter with an alien spaceship which hided in the deep in Southern Pacific Ocean. A spacecraft disappears over the ocean and a group of scientists are placed in a deep-see habitat to continue the search. An interesting time-trip episode of an future aircraft is included in the plot, but this is not a main point. A heavy storm then shuts down the communication between the scientists team under the sea and the Navy ships. The team discovers an apparently extraterrestrial sphere-shaped object. Then the scientists receive the contact signals from the sphere - seemingly of friendly nature to some extent. The story then becomes a sort of psychological drama, without any physical or biological background. Some happy ending after all, despite the deaths of some members. Michael Crichton often inserts computer outputs (ASCII printouts) in his novels, but I am not impressed at all. Probably the author is still using Windows 95 and a lot of floppy disks. | 海外ではベストセラーだったが、SFに興味のない私は、さほどおもしろいとは思わなかった。科学者が結集する箇所は、「アンドロメダ病原体」とも似ている。もっとも、イカなどの生態が詳しく述べられていて、それなりにおもしろい個所はあった。 | ||||
