Excellent read!!

Bought this nook as an introduction to science fiction. So glad I did. It is a fast paced and fascinating read. Enjoyable from the very first words.

One of my most favorite stories of all time

This is one of my most favorite stories of all time. There are a lot of things that have changed since it was written that have invalidated some of its premises but if you read it with that in mind, it is a fantastic story. The themes and situations however are still relevant.

Snow Crash Rocks

I liked the bizarre future it predicts for the world and its wacky assortment of anti heroes and offbeat villains

Intriquing premise that scares you as to whether we are living in the future already or if it is pre-ordained.

Very cool book. Part science fiction, part editorial, part history lesson, part imagination and part reality. It would be a 5 star if the ending - although satisfying - were a little more drawn out.

Comic book style cyberpunk

Snow Crash begins exactly like the late 1980s comic it was originally intended to be. The style is highly visual and deliberately exaggerated, you could picture it appearing in Deadline, 200AD or Heavy Metal. As the story goes along Stephenson adds layer upon layer of concepts and ideas, building and adding complexity to the story. The idea of visual programming through language and ancient religion is patently ridiculous and yet it works well in the context or the story and gives it a sort of semi-intelectual credence that you wouldn't expect from the style. This is a big, bold, hyperbolic, humorous take on the cyberpunk genre.

Amazing!

It is a great sci-fi adventure that is well written and chocked full of things that have actually come to be a common place in today's society! I want to start reading it all over again!

Reader will not be disapointed!

Good read. Give a look at the future that's already almost here where people spend as much or more time in the virtual as they do in the real world.

Has moments of greatness.

I loved the beginning of the novel. The whole deliverator part. YT was an intoxicating character in her awesome late 80s 'tude. Great libertarian dystopia--the franchise based city states--great concept. I loved that part more than any of the tech stuff.

The issues I had were the ExMachina tacked on story of the relationship between Hiro's Father and Raven's Father. Stephenson did not need to add to the conflict between Raven and Hiro. There was enough tension. Raven cut Lagos in half. Tried to harpoon Hiro. He sunk Hiro's ship. And don't forget he lobotomized his friend and ex-boss and almost Hiro.

The ending left many untied threads, which I don't mind, but it was kind of an anti-climax. Enzo or Raven? What about Juanita? Should Hiro trust her? Overall worth reading even if it's SF awesomeness is debased into an action movie ending.
