Although the Thistledown triolgy has vague similarities to the Foundation series, Bear has created a wonderful universe of universes. On the slightly less positive side, I remain puzzled by the many typographical errors in such a major work - they do interrupt the flow and are distracting.

Don't give up on this sequel - it was a bit slow going in the beginning, and some of the language nuances were difficult to pronounce, but by about 1/3 of the way through things heat up nicely. We meet our first Jart, and many other amazing and unlikely characters. What will happen with The Way? Thistledown? Enjoy...

The story continues in the same fabulous way he brings his 'Way' of writing. I have become a fan and look to read more from the world of Greg Bear.

One of the best books I've ever read. True treasure for any hard-core sci-fi fan. Was the first I read , even though it is the last of the trilogy.

As expected a rich and deeply textured story culminating in a climactic end .. It has unfortunately left us hankering after more ... But alas..

First thing, Amazon has the book order mixed up. This is volume 2, following from Eon, volume 1. Fans will already know this. Nowbies are highly advised to read Eon first as this one won't make sense otherwise. Unlike many sequels, it does not contain a precis of the first volume in the opening chapter. As sequels go, it is fluently written and expands on storylines started in the original, after a pause of 40 years book time. However it does not actually contain anything new, at least not in the way a new science fiction novel should tread the threashold of what-might-be. It simply uses all the ideas from volume one, shuffles them, and throws them out in a new order. It's a very good read though, so worth investigating (after reading Eon). The third book in the trilogy is unrelated and unreadable so avoid it.
