最も軽妙で登場人物らの態度も軟化。殺しはあるが炸裂する暴力や動機は時折闇や屈折を窺わすも全開せず、皮肉な会話にて終焉。

　ハードボイルドの元祖ということだったので、２００ページにしては高いと思ったが買ってみました。
　なるほど、ストーリー展開は現代的で、現代のスリラーと比べても遜色なく、元祖と言われるのは納得です。最後のころは何となく犯人が推測でき、無理のない展開で納得できます。
　ただし、英語の表現は、どういう訳か分りませんが、難解で、読み返さないと分らないところがたくさんあること、登場人物の関係が把握しにくかったので、読み辛いと感じました。

I planed to make this the last story I would read by Dashiel Hammett. However others tell me I just picked the wrong one to start with. The film on the other hand, was modified to give a lighter approach. It is the film that I will think of as the real "Thin Man" and Maureen O'Sullivan as the real Dorothy that was concerned about her father. Speaking about that, what is the Sullivan act?
