I was amazed that the book was written in the early 90s

When I read Snow Crash, I was amazed that the book was written in the early 90s. It accurately describes many of the technologies we now not only have, but have access to every day. For this alone, it is worth a read. Stephenson predicted a lot of what we now take for granted in day to day life and it is really kind of awesome.

From a prose stand point, this is not the easiest book to read. There is plenty of tech jargon (some of it made up) and a lot of linguistics vocabulary you might need to parse as you are reading. Also, his description of the corporate states is a little head scratching at first, but I feel pretty confident in saying that if you ignore it early on, you'll get it by the end.

Otherwise, it is an entertaining yarn. I didn't like it as much the 2nd time I read it, but I still think it is a very good book.

A great read if you are looking for a dystopian future with some excellent world building

Fantastic dystopian future world full with interesting and harsh extrapolations of today society and some cool creative interpretation of early religion. This book has a lot going for it! It falls on star short because by the end of the book I couldn't care less about what happened to the "Hiro" and actually was more concerned with the couple supporting characters that weren't a one dimensional stereotype. This book is a fun romp that striving to make some interesting observations on the vim diagram of society/religion/computers but is as clumsy at it as a 15 year-old boy in a darkened girls bedroom

A must read.

This is a fantastic book. Just so much fun. The first chapter put me off but after the first fifth of the book I was hooked. It has two slow parts but otherwise the pace is really good, and fun

Great characters, unresolved ending

So much great stuff in this book. I loved the protagonists and the premise. What I really disliked was the ending. It felt like an abrupt jolt and was not satisfying. Did he just have to hit a deadline? Would rate it a 3.5

Hilarious, Visionary, Cyberpunk Masterpiece

Deeply interesting characters, a driving story, and a premise that still feels fresh despite its age. For me, this is a top 10 sci fi of all time.

What I loved about this book was that there was all the ...

The beginning is a bit choppy, but it's worth your patience. What I loved about this book was that there was all the education in Sumerian language/society that's woven quite well into the rest of the story.

20-Year old high-tech adventure is still fresh!

An old high-tech adventure involving smart-wheel skateboards and motorcycles, with Balkanized "burbclaves" is still a really fun read, and was even worth the re-read. Highly recommended.

Another great Stephenson story

Another great Stephenson story. I kind of thought the ending was abrupt but I loved the characters and liked the mix of old mythology and hackers.

Great read

This is book is an excellent adventure through a colorful world of diverse characters. Despite covering heavy topics such as religion, politics , and capitalism, this book never forgets to make us care about the characters in its universe. Highly recommended for those who enjoy exploring the outskirts of society.

boring parts (to me

Dear Lord, if you haven't read this one yet, get to it. Yes, there are some wordy, boring parts (to me, anyway), but skim past them (the whole nam-shub business could have been greatly condensed IMHO) and treat your brain to one of the greatest sci-fi books ever written. Yep, right up there with Dune, Ender's Game, etc. Stephenson's gift for describing unbelievably cool weapons, vehicles, and fights in an unbelievably cool way is unmatched.

Entertaining book!

The book was overall well written, the main characters are enjoyable, the plot was great. There are a few things that I thought could have been a little better, I thought the ending was good, but I wanted something more grand. Still very fun book to read, and it was published in 1992, reading it in 2017 didn't effect the story to me, only thing that was off because of the timing, was that it seemed more futuristic from now, yet some of the characters referenced living through the 70's, and some characters parents were WWII vets.

More stripped down, bare essential, rapid-fire writing.

More stripped down, bare essential, rapid-fire writing - pizza delivery scene is great. The story has holes in it but this is science fiction and who else can imagine and weave a story like this? Worth paying full price. I'm presently reading Cryptomicon; the writing is more relaxed and luxurious. You won't find a lot of commas in Snow Crash.
