The novel started off well. But I quickly lost interest after 80-100 pages. I finished it because I paid $12 for it. The misery of reading this could have been alleviated if this book was more like a graphic novel which would have depicted the action sequences a lot better than actually reading an unnecessary amount of pages describing it. Verdict: Mind blowingly AWFUL

Ugh. Long, poorly written, diverging plot line. Couldn’t finish it.

I've read many top 100 sci-fi book, other sci-fi, all Steven King books, and other types of reads but I couldn't continue at about 10% through. I disliked the writing style immensely, nothing caught my interest, and I felt like I was waisting my time and getting angrier doing it. Wish I could be more positive but I've read some really poor books but continued to the end anyway.

I liked the idea of the book. However its kind of hard to follow. Its written as if the back story is common knowledge. It gets fairly weird and not in a good way.

I don't like this book. Writing style sucks. Name's of characters suck. I am not enjoying it at all. Big waste of money.

Not well written. Storyline was hard to follow. Characters did not flow together and work well with the storyline. Bad.

Just doesn't stand the test of time. Technical material is out-dated and the plot is nonsensical at best. I enjoyed Cryptonomicon and wanted more of Stephenson but will be giving him a long, if not permanent break.

Very poor page and print quality, looks like a roadside copy print.

I've read all but about 150 pages. I have no idea if there is a plot or even what the book is about. I loved Cryptonomicom. Anathema and Seveneves so I know I "get" Stevenson. This was weird. I'd bought the Baroque cycle at the same time. Now I'm nervous about reading it. I hope I enjoy it.

OK story until the sex scene between the 15 year old heroine and the adult antagonist. What was he thinking?

Not a horrible ending, but not a great one. Literally over two thirds exposition. You're lost throughout most of it.

Been hearing a lot about this book and it's opening chapter, so I tried it out. Bored me to tears. Just finished it because I wanted to give it a chance but it never recovered.

Mr Stephenson, I hope I got your attention. Your writing, as all know, is stellar. But this amazon rendition is terrible, you should be alarmed at the crude attempt at ocr, seemingly from a used copy of your book. Passages underlined. Typo errors. And top it all off, my reader skips back to the amazon store at random passages in the book. Bait and switch. The sample did not do this. Want my money back.

After having read and thoroughly enjoyed the Baroque cycle, I was surprised that I could not continue beyond 12 percent. The characters are weak, and much of the tech isn't that different from today but for the scope portrayed in the story. Neal did NOT do any research into how 3d worlds are rendered. People would not write code to create polygonal geometry it would still be done as it is today with a program such as Maya or Max. The real-time rendering would also be handled via what many games come with called a level editor. Think of Unreal Engine editor. There are also some inconsistencies with how actual code would be handled. Why would someone's avatar just automatically download the data that is handed to them? It would get stored somewhere to be opened at one's discretion. argh. So many uninformed plot conventions I just couldn't get past it.

The concept and the plot of this story are fantastic. However, I found the writing style painfully bad. It made it hard to get through the book.

I absolutely love SF, but Snow Crash was probably the worst case of "information overload" I've ever attempted to read. Like others have said, the ideas presented are amazing, but Stephenson's presentation of them is more or less a clusterf**k. His characters are woefully unmotivated by anything but his ideas, and the pure amount of slang that isn't explained makes reading this confusing and frustrating. I cannot recommend this book when there are so many others out there that are digestible and have a plot that isn't just a Frankenstein's monster of ideas clumsily stitched together.
