| この頃のグリシャムの作品はあまり面白くありません。ビリオネアの老人が議論をよぶテスタメントを残し衝撃の自殺。続くグウタラ息子・娘たちのドロドロの相続協議、そしてアル中から立ち直りつつある弁護士が南米のどこかにいる（らしい）非嫡出子の相続人の行方を追う・・・・面白そうなプロットなんですが中盤以降ほんとうに平板な展開でページターナーというよりパラパラーと流したくなる感じ。でもグリシャムだから何かある、必ず何か・・・と期待しながら我慢してページをめくるうち、結局そのまま終わってしまったという感じ。でも最新作「King of Torts」はおすすめですから是非最新作をどうぞ。 | ||||

| 彼の作品はだんだん質が低下している。 はっきり言って、最後まで読むのが苦痛でした。 ということで、お勧めしません。しかし、まあ 時間をつぶすにはいい本かも。暇で何かを読みたい 時には、買えばいいのでは？しかし、それなら 他の文庫本を買ったほうが楽しめるかも？ とりあえず、読んでおきたい人にはお勧め。 | ||||

| Yes, in spite of the reviews quoted in the cover. The Testament is not even close to the best of Grisham. If you are new to Grisham, stop, go and read The Firm, The Client, or Pelican Brief. Do not let this book to prejudice you!Grisham has made a bold attempt to break away from the legal world he was covering so vividly in his previous books. It is reasonable enough for any author to try it some time sooner or later. But, here he has not succeeded. Having said the bad stuff, The Testament is not a bad work. It is interesting and well written book. A unique story. And the religious stuff in the book does not appeal me much. (But it may, some others - so this is a very personal view). Though it is not the job of the reviewer to judge the moral aspects of a fiction, still reading about the ‘white’ characters of missionaries in this book, I am compelled to make a single comment: “Why don’t they think for a moment that there may be other good things in this wide world except their religion. And try to spoon feed that unnecessary luxury to innocent, poor people, while there are thousands of other basic things that one can do to improve their standard of living.” | ||||

| 前半はストーリーの展開も早くさすが！！という感じでしたが後半、特にラストは期待はずれでがっかりでした。 いつもの読者を飽きさせない魅力が無かったような気がします。 初めてJohn Grishamの作品を読む方には The Firmなど他の作品から読むことをおすすめします。 | ||||
