| I just love Nelson DeMille and his prodigiously talented writing style. This is the second book by Nelson DeMille that I've read and added to my literature collection with great alacrity. By the way, the first was The General's Daughter, which made an interesting reading as well. Anyways, back to the main subject. One of the factors that turned this book into such a great page-turner was that the story contained a plethora of the so-called "cat and mouse game" that was quite out of the ordinary. The main man, Keith Landry, and his sweetheart Annie, together tries their best to escape from the belligerent and autocratic police chief (which just happens to be Annie's husband), and I truly believe that the thrill of the story lays in the escape attempts than in any other parts of the book. Do you know the feeling that you get when you're playing hide-and-go-seek and the "go seeker" is only inches away from you but he doesn't see you for some odd reason? Well, that's the kind of thrill that I'm talking about and that's the kind of thrill that you'll experience as you turn the pages of this book. You gotta love Nelson DeMille. | ||||

| デミルの中ではあまりできの良く無い方。 デミルの冒険小説では、いつも本筋に対して主人公の恋愛も同時進行し、その軽いハーレクインのり（男向け）が適度の読みやすさを支えているが。今回は、正面きって純愛をメインストーリにしているのが異色といえば異色だが、正直成功しているとは言えない。濡れ場に異常に力点が入っていて、バランス崩しても強引に突っ切るのがデミルの魅力なんだけど、今回は本来サイドストーリーがメインなわけで、ハッキリ行ってちょっとつまらない、主人公が凄くバカに見える。○○○をしている時に捕まるシーンなんて、多分ドラマチックなつもりで描いているんだけど、笑えてしまう。 追っ手に終われている時に、モーテルのベッドで合体中に捕まる主人公なんてありえないよねー。 悪役も、中途半端に嫌なやつで魅力も無い。 主人公が活躍する場面もほとんどなくて、極端にいうといちぃちゃしてるだけ。全くもってけなすだけなのに、嫌いになれないのが、デミルの魅力ですかね。 | ||||
