Mom Among the Liars: Not as convoluted as Mom Doth Murder Sleep. In fact, this book, number four of the four book series, has a rather sweet ending. Nevertheless, it still has the same set up: Mom interprets clues out of the blue by making sometimes wild assumptions.

The color for this one is politics: the corrupt, bumbling and alcoholic district attorney is up for re-election. He has been challenged to actually try the next murder himself instead of passing it off on one of his staff, challenged, in fact, by the woman who is running against him. As in all books in the series, a murder is committed, the wrong person is charged, the public defender is appointed lawyer for the accused, and our protagonist, the investigator for the public defender, must gather the evidence to clear the accused and perhaps find the real killer. It is the investigator's mother, however, who solves the mystery with her often off-the-wall assumptions. Fun, but not worth more than a single, casual reading.
