Great book!

I don't want to put in any spoilers, but this is a great book.

Pros:
1) It isn't just science fiction. Stephenson weaves in myth, politics, and many themes that are becoming relevant to today's society.
2) Stylistically, the book is really easy to read. While some of the content may not be appropriate, a fifth or sixth grader could understand the prose.
3) It is really fun to see many of Stephenson's ideas about the internet and technology come true in today's world.

Cons:
1) The female characters are a bit underdeveloped and one dimensional
2) Parts can become long and droning or overly pedantic

Overall, it is a great book that I recommend to friends. Like Neuromancer, it is a sci-fi book that non sci-fi fans can appreciate.

Not a genre of book that I normally read but I wanted to try something new. I was very pleased with this book. A story line that was easy to comprehend and likeable characters. I'm definitely going to read more of this author.

One of the best novels by Neal. Nuff' said.

Now I understand why this book is a classic. I love how Stephenson intertwines elements of future tech, politics, and culture with philosophy both old and new. Though at times I had a difficult time visualizing some of the scenes he described, it didn't detract from the fun I had reading the alternating narration from the two main characters, Hiro Protagonist and Y.T.

Wow! You kind of have to be a computer programmer and futurist and have a forgiving mind for discrepancies, but it is fast-paced, in general, goes far into the future and past, posits a near future that is a reasonably extrapolated version of our lunatic society, and has a weird plot. I liked it. My wife shouldn't even get close to the book.

Sorry ,but the worst sci-fi book I've read and yes I've read other reviews to see if I had missed anything.wafer thin characters, silly plot,awkward narrative style,poor poor poor!!!!

Hero Protagonist is the sword wielding ninja pizza deliveryman that takes cyberspace beyond Gibson. You must read.this.

Bought this nook as an introduction to science fiction. So glad I did. It is a fast paced and fascinating read. Enjoyable from the very first words.

Future sci-fi well done!

Great mix of futuristic, historical, and mythological with a fun sense of humor. Classic Stephenson ;)

Pretty good

This is one of my most favorite stories of all time. There are a lot of things that have changed since it was written that have invalidated some of its premises but if you read it with that in mind, it is a fantastic story. The themes and situations however are still relevant.

Not the Neal Stephenson I was hoping for. While the storyline was interesting enough, the made up world and devices were too much sci-fi, too little reality for my taste. In addition, the over use of lingo and euphemisms in the character dialog was tiresome and distracting.

I liked the bizarre future it predicts for the world and its wacky assortment of anti heroes and offbeat villains

Very cool book. Part science fiction, part editorial, part history lesson, part imagination and part reality. It would be a 5 star if the ending - although satisfying - were a little more drawn out.

Snow Crash begins exactly like the late 1980s comic it was originally intended to be. The style is highly visual and deliberately exaggerated, you could picture it appearing in Deadline, 200AD or Heavy Metal. As the story goes along Stephenson adds layer upon layer of concepts and ideas, building and adding complexity to the story. The idea of visual programming through language and ancient religion is patently ridiculous and yet it works well in the context or the story and gives it a sort of semi-intelectual credence that you wouldn't expect from the style. This is a big, bold, hyperbolic, humorous take on the cyberpunk genre.

Meh
