I liked the story but hated the president and specifically the 1st lady characters. It should be a very strong wake up call for this November's elections. The libs are ruining our military & our ability to defend ourselves.Think this story or something like it could not happen for real? Think again....

The book starts in 1991 at the opening of Desert Storm. But, it quickly moves to 1995. Valentin Valicheko replaces Boris Yeltsin in the Kremlin and President Freeman and his powerful wife are in the White House. Freeman has never been in the military. He drastically reduces the size of the U.S. military and want to avoid war at all costs. Vlicheko senses that the U.S. is weak and invades the Ukraine to regain of the territory that Russia lost when the Soviet Union dissolved. Lots of good flying ensues. A good read.

For those of us that enjoy reading about possible current events regarding NATO, Soviet, and American forces mixing it up. This is sure to please even the ones that demand accurate, well researched, and likely scenarios. The author goes to great lengths to provide character development, background information, and technical information adding to the experience. Well done! On a personal note, many years have passed, I relived many experiences, bases, and similar characters as described in this we'll written story. Reinforced pride in our service member's service past, present and future. I recommend this author highly. You will not be disappointed.

Great story but technical terminology dominates the writing. An overkill

Not the best by Mr. Brown, but not bad. Story line was okay, but had it figured out ahead of time. Would benefit greatly from a good editor and a cleanup of all the "F" bombs. They are not needed and do not add anything of value. I have read hundreds of very good books that did not have any.

Chains of Command is very much a book of its time. Clearly when he wrote this book, Dale Brown had some strong opinions. About the US not killing Saddam Hussein during Desert Storm. About Bill and Hillary Clinton, and how involved she was in the government. About the focus of the US military shifting to reserves. About women in combat. About the shape of post-USSR Russia. There is no Patrick McLanahan here. No Brad Elliot. Not even any B-52s. Brown created a whole new cast of characters, though Daren Mace is pretty McLanahan-ish. Russia attacks Moldova, then nukes Ukraine for getting involved. Turkey is Ukraine's new ally, and the US is reluctantly drawn into the battle. I think Dale Brown is trying to support women in combat but his way of doing it just comes across as way too sexist. His criticisms of the White House (and dislike of Hillary) just go too far. There's plenty of flying, some really good insight on what it's like to be in the Reserves, and good action scenes, but the rest of the book really detracts from it. Maybe 2.5 stars.

Written only a copule of years ago, it features events that, while imaginary, may well portend the future, given the current mirror situation in the Russian neighborhood. Dale Brown's prescience, deep knowledge of planes, weapons and, especially human nature make for interesting reading and, moreover, provides food for deep thought.

Chains of Command is a well written, well-researched book that, while fictitious, closely parallels many current events. The author presents a gook knowledge of military aircraft and their operation, as well as the political tentacles that often affect military operations. One of my benchmarks for appraising a book is what I call "The Believability Factor". This is especially important when writing a novel set in the social, political and military realities of the times. Dale Brown does a very good job tying his characters and plot to current events, except in a couple of places where he steps over the line, relating some unrealistic happenings that distract from the book's overall "Believability Factor". Author Tom Clancy was undoubtedly the master of the "believable" military novel, and he set the bar very high for all writers who would attempt to follow in his footsteps. Chains of Command is well worth the read. It will capture your attention and entertain you to the last page, especially if you can ignore the few distractions
