| 11篇収録の短編集。傑作率は「とむらい機関車」のほうが高い。 とは言え謎解きの論理性に優れており、ミステリ好きにとってお手頃感が強い。読んで損はない。 特に印象深いのは、次の二作だ。 『三狂人』三人の狂人が脳病院から脱走した。狂人さんたちはそれぞれ個性的だ。 やがて一人が死体となって発見される。題材の奇抜さと謎が魅力的だ。 『灯台鬼』灯台で職員が殺された。直前に奇怪な絶叫が聞こえたという。 さらに蛸とも海月ともつかぬ真っ赤な怪物が目撃される。現場にはヌラヌラした液体が残されていた。 いやもう、大好物のシチュエーションだ。 まさか超自然を持ち出すのでは？と疑ったが、ちゃんと論理的に解明される。あまりの結末に唖然とした。 上記二作があまりに強烈で、他の作品がかすむ。つまらなくはない。 表題作は単純な錯覚トリックで、普通の出来だ。 『寒の夜晴れ』シンプル・イズ・ベストという感じの探偵譚。読後感が切ない。 『花束の虫』は殺人法が極めつけにユニークだ。 『幽霊妻』は島田荘司のアンソロジーで読んだ。女の幽霊は、鉄格子をねじ切る怪力で、香油でぬれた長い髪を現場に残していった。この犯人には、目が点になる。 『大百貨注文者』は時局に応じたスパイ小説だ。注文の真意が面白い。 読みながら、「そうそう、推理小説はこれくらいでいいんだよ」とうなずいた。 広辞苑みたいな厚さで、犯罪心理や各種のうんちくを延々と書くのもいいだろう。それなりに面白いのもあるし。でも、今は本屋で見かけなくなった。 それらの長大なミステリは、80年後に大阪圭吉のように、再販・再評価されるだろうか。 | ||||

| Highly recommended for anyone who just wants a well-written and narrated page turner that isn't too highbrow! Excellent book to read. I would highly recommended it to family and friends. I passed the book on to my sister and she also loved it so much that she passed it on to her daughter. This book was great. Amazing story, I would definitely recommend. | ||||

| I've been thinking about this book since I finished it and cannot wait to dig into it again. I've been recommending it to everyone. I read a lot of negative reviews, but I don’t understand why. I enjoyed reading her story from her perspective. Some parts made me sad; however, I’ll always view author as a role model. | ||||

| It is difficult for me to find the words to express how GOOD this book really is. THIS is one of those rare books that, once I complete the book, I wish I could forget it and start reading it anew. Actually, I may read this one anew for another reason; it is certainly worth a second read. If you still haven't read this book you don't know what you're missing. This is such a good book that I actually enjoyed reading, I had been in a reading slump before this book and I could never read self help books! | ||||

| このたびめでたく東京創元社から出版された、戦前の本格探偵作家、大阪圭吉の傑作集２冊のうちの１冊。短編１１作が収録されています。 どの作品もよくできていてますが、短編とはいえあまりに短すぎるのが不満。ちょっとおもしろいアイデア、トリックを思いついたので書いてみました、という印象を受けてしまう。決してそんなことはなかっただろうに。発表当時は紙面の都合などもあったこととは思いますが、ふくらます気になればまだまだふくらませる、長編でも書けそうなアイデアが使われているので、ちょっと残念。潔いといえば潔いのですが。 巻末の著者作品リストを見るとまだまだ作品があるようで、これらもぜひ読んでみたい。出版社さん、傑作集といわず、ぜひ全集を出してくださいませ。 | ||||
