Quintessential cyberpunk. If anyone enjoys the genere is a must read with great charecters and a great deal of effort put into world building.

Having read and enjoyed many of Neal S. books I decided to read this earlier book. I had just finished SevenEves and enjoyed it. I had noticed when I mention Neal Stephenson to readers the most commonly read book they submit is 'Snow Crash'. Figured it must be good so picked it up and loaded it to my Kindle. I was disappointed, although realizing the age of the book, thought it pretty good for its time. I think Neal's writing has improved notable since he wrote this book. It did seem a lot like a graphic novel, apparently the original intent for the effort.

Great book!

I was originally steered to this book by a bookstore clerk who heard me raving about how much I liked Arrival, and mostly because of the linguistic science behind it, and she said this one should keep my interest. At first it was slow and I could not see the resemblance but then soon enough, it became an enthralling mash of history, linguistics, religion, science and brash detective science. It was very well written and kept me on edge to the end.

This book is very creative and enjoyable. I loved it. Buy it, buy it, buy it, buy it, buy it.

Too many F-bombs for my taste...

the story doesnt really sock you in some funny parts kinda a messy story line

Pre 90"s hacker story way ahead of its time some things came true some didn't still extremely entertaining. Highly recommended

This is one of my all time favorite books. It took me a long time to get into it (I couldn't with the first chapter, and put it down for a long time before trying again) but the first chapter (like many of Stephenson's books) is pretty anomalous style-wise in comparison to the rest (& I've grown to love it regardless - don't be tempted to skip it as I was, it is relevant to the story). Great reading, fun, thoughtful cyberpunk, one of the early & canonical books of the genre. If you like Gibson, & you haven't read Snow Crash, would definitely suggest that you do.

Very imaginative, edge-of-your-seat action. I've read this book multiple times now and I still get immersed in the story. The characters are well thought out and it's fun to see their personalities arise in each situation

After having read and thoroughly enjoyed the Baroque cycle, I was surprised that I could not continue beyond 12 percent. The characters are weak, and much of the tech isn't that different from today but for the scope portrayed in the story. Neal did NOT do any research into how 3d worlds are rendered. People would not write code to create polygonal geometry it would still be done as it is today with a program such as Maya or Max. The real-time rendering would also be handled via what many games come with called a level editor. Think of Unreal Engine editor.
There are also some inconsistencies with how actual code would be handled. Why would someone's avatar just automatically download the data that is handed to them? It would get stored somewhere to be opened at one's discretion. argh. So many uninformed plot conventions I just couldn't get past it.

The story itself, to me, was a little weak. However, I enjoyed the premonitory aspect of the book. Rather like a Jules Verne tale for the Virtual Reality world

The concept and the plot of this story are fantastic. However, I found the writing style painfully bad. It made it hard to get through the book.

Far out SciFi

Funny and entertaining.

A joyous romp I cannot believe I missed until now. I was lost in my own metaverse in Nebraska I guess.

I absolutely love SF, but Snow Crash was probably the worst case of "information overload" I've ever attempted to read. Like others have said, the ideas presented are amazing, but Stephenson's presentation of them is more or less a clusterf**k. His characters are woefully unmotivated by anything but his ideas, and the pure amount of slang that isn't explained makes reading this confusing and frustrating. I cannot recommend this book when there are so many others out there that are digestible and have a plot that isn't just a Frankenstein's monster of ideas clumsily stitched together.

This book started out slow for me but once I got into it I really loved the interesting characters and story. Great book!

Sorry, I just could not get into it.
