This Book was "riveting"! I had a hard time putting it down. Loved the Characters too. I hope David writes MORE like the "Fraternity of the Stone" and "The Brotherhood of the Rose". This writer doesn't need to go on Vacation, he has fun just sitting home and thinking! If you enjoy Spy Novels, you will want to read this book.

I read this book to complete the trilogy . Started with the brotherhood of the rose. I'm a big action adventure spy reader. The book did not disappoint. He did irritate me some in the middle with the main chacarter double guessing his double guessing... Thought it bogged down the story some. Reminded me of filler material. Overall I enjoyed the book and would not hesitate to recommend it.

I was first "introduced" to David Morrell's writing through The Brotherhood of the Rose (my personal favorite among spy/espionage novels) not knowing that he also had written First Blood and several others. My reading choices are random and subject to my mood of the moment, yet I'll read BOTR, Fraternity of the Stone, and the companion book The League of Night and Fog time and time again - Morrell's style keeps me entranced and entwined within the stories - almost as if I'm living the events depicted fist-hand.

Thrilling adventure featuring Drew MacLane is a star agent in Scalpel. clandestine, government-sanctioned organization of assins and he wants out. Renouncing violence he retreats to a monastery, where for six years he lives the life of a hermit. But then someone tracks him down, leaving an ungodly trail of bodies. Someone who knows all about him-and will stop at nothing to destroy him. Drawn back into that electrifying world where no one is as he seems. Fast paced, plot twisting, adventure. I also purchased "Brotherhood of the Rose" and "The League of Night Night and Fog" featuring some of these same characters and loved all three. I would be pleased if at some point Morrell would continue their story.

Having read this book many years ago, I knew it was good.....but the opening chapter is the best anyone has ever written and it continues thru out. All of David Morrell's books are first rate and I truely hope if anyone has not read this one that they do soon! Billie

I enjoyed this book as I have all of the David Morrell novels I have read. It was a bit slow to start, and in a few scenes it dragged a bit. The book is definitely worth the five stars I gave it considering. But for an overall package, it was a great read. It was based in the late 70's, early 80's and his story reflects the that error very well. The story is fiction but within it is a sense of believability. For the most part I couldn't put the thing down, I read it in 2 days. Book was well written, if you enjoy enjoy a good spy thriller you can not go wrong with this book.

The title of this book can led many readers to confusion in a way I thought that this book, using fictional elements would extend to describe how the Fraternity of the Stone operates in the shadows, who are their associates, how they conduct their covert operations in order to protect and maintain the influence of the Church worldwide. I expected to learn something new about those things which seem hidden and for this reason, very attractive But the fact is that what I have found was your average action thriller, poorly written which had a great beginning but began to falter after a few chapters due to the lack of background research of the author, who only seems to know the methods employed by the security teams and intelligence agencies to train their agents in the use of weapons, hand to hand combat and property assault After reading Morrell for the third time it seems to me that he likes to highlight the action scenes in his books based on what I have mentioned above, which is great if the author is skilled managing suspense, something he is not very proficient at. I think that Mr Morrell is a long way yet to attain the level of Frederick Forsyth or Robert Ludlum creating this kind of mystery/action thrillers, and this book is convincing evidence

this book was written a few years back, its about the opus dei the catholic intelligence org. its the best fiction book of its kind ever written.its a real thriller, that begins in a monastery and becomes a chase book like no other ever written. the story ,the characters, the pace of the book is non stop. morrell, has written a book that far out paces the da vinci code.both are about a secert org.that no one knows about. in and out of the catholic church.but that where the secert ends.this book is so much better in every way than the da vinci code, that you want be able to wait to tell your friends to buy this one !! the fraternity of the stone.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
