| A book written mostly in Italian but also in Camillerese: tantichia = a little bit, spiare = to ask, tambiasare = to dawdle. I saw the TV episode of this book on TV before reading the book. If the show is PG-13, some of the dialog in the book is R-rated. A detective, internally tortured, trying to figure out how to manipulate events that are stacked against him so that at least some good can come out of the situation. In this case, a detective trying to make sure funds in the murdered mom's bank account get transferred to the orphan son, Francois. While some of Detective Salvo Montalbano's actions are undefendable (e.g. pretending to have a heart attack to draw an uncooperative postmaster close by, then faking an assault on a police officer to convince the postmaster to stop being so difficult, his character comes across as at least trying to mostly do the right thing. "Saltafosso" is the italian word for proposing a hypothetical situation to somebody in order to trap them in an inconsistency. "Catastrafotteva" (page 210) looks like an italian verb conjugated in the third person indicative imperfect, but it's not found in my Italian dictionary. It looks like a combination of two words, the first is a cognate easily understood by an english speaker, the second a parolaccia. Again, Camillerese. | ||||

| Come al solito, lo stile di Camilleri è ben presente e la storia è avvincente e simpatica allo stesso tempo. Purtroppo non ho modo di fare recensioni approfondite per tutti i libri della collana comprati perché la trama è comunque reperibile su Internet e a me sono piaciuti tutti indistintamente l'uno dall'altro! | ||||

| シチリアはマフィアだけじゃないのだ。食べ物が素晴らしい。観光国イタリアは観光国故町にによってはなんじゃこれはとがっかりするレストランもあるだろうが、シチリアは裏切らない。そこのところを再確認できるモンタルバーノシリーズであります。読んでいるうちによだれが出てきそう。シチリアは。それに人間が面白い。観察していて退屈しません。そのこともよく解るCamilleriの本です。日本語訳が二冊だけなんて残念なことです。きっとシチリア方言が大変なのかもしれませんが、出版社にがんばって欲しいし、イタリアファンに読んでもらいたいです。 | ||||

| Die Krimis von Andrea Camilleri sind wunderbar zu lesen, sei es in Italienisch oder in Deutsch! Man kann süchtig nach diesen Büchern werden. Schade ist nur, dass man in Deutschland nicht die Filme bekommt, die es in Italien bereits zu kaufen gibt. | ||||
