It was OK. Solid plot, likable side characters, strong silent man + career driven woman who needs him to rescue her ... nothing spectacular, but ok.

My first read of this author, “The Spy Coast,” was excellent so I looked for more. Reading this, “Under the Knife,” felt like it was a Harlequin novel of which I never read and don’t waste my time, I enjoy good mystery novels where I never guess who did it. This was a fair murder mystery, I never guessed the murderer, but maybe because it was written in 1990, it was poorly constructed. Amazon Kindle needs to state upfront this a 1990 book. I finished it because I was bored recovering. But as a retired R.N, none of this flies! Especially a MD violating HIPPA numerous times!! And going to a plaintiff attorneys before she even consults her own attorney so much breach here it is totally unbelievable. It truly is a waste of time. I will try one more time to read a more current book of this author before I entirely wipe off the others I have purchased.

As a retired physician and a recent widower, the sentiment that Tess Gerritsen left me with was special. I know she was also a physician. The element of caring she writes with gives me the renewed happier outlook for the rest of my life

We place our trust in the medical professionals without realizing how easy it is to break the system. Readers find themselves rooting for the accused doc as the story proceeds

Used to love Tess Gerritsen for the thriller/mystery drama of her books, but pass the sick bag, what on earth is all the mushy romantic nonsense in this book all about, it's like reading Mills and Boon! All the sighing, eye gazing and "head in the clouds" lovefest of the two main characters, so distracting from the main storyline, which was a subplot really. Not for me, I'm afraid!

This is another thriller. The conclusion would not be ended until the end. Who knew who the killer would be?

I love the way Tess hooks the reader and slowly unfolds the story that doesn't give too much away but just enough suspense, unravelling the story at the end

Great read as always.. I have trouble putting Teas's books down until the final sentence. Just too few of them.

I am a huge fan of Tess Gerritsen's Rizzoli & Isles series however I'm finding that her standalone books just aren't up to the same standard, maybe it's because they are some of her earlier works but I dunno, they leave me feeling disappointment. My favorite Tess trait is that shes so gory she makes me want to vomit over my shoes, this book didnt have that element, and it felt sappy which is so un tess like. However it's a good thriller, I think if this had another authors name on the spine I'd rate it higher but I expect a certain standard from Tess and this fell short. Three stars.

This definitely threw me for a loop at the end. When I thought I had guessed the right killer, Tess threw in a curve ball! I love it! She always keeps me on my toes!

Under The Knife This is so far as I can establish is Tess Gerritsen’s second book. Compared to the first it has different characters, different location and the same plot. Girl’s life implodes, man who was her adversary becomes her ally, couple go on the run together, baddie turns out to be someone known to them, couple go into the sunset together. The end. Doctor Kate Chesne is blamed for patient dying in the operating theatre. Family sue and top lawyer gets involved. Hospital administrators distance themselves from the unfortunate doctor. Kate is horrified by the happening and cannot work out what went wrong. She knows she did everything she should have but the medical charts appear to show the opposite. Further enquiries appear to show a pattern with three medical practitioners including the patient in the operating theatre all having recently died. All three had worked together in recent years and more in-depth investigation shows that there is a gap in their patients records. Is there a serial killer? Chesne now being assisted by the lawyer hired to sue her soon discovers she is now in the sights of the killer. Several attempts are made on her life and the police seem reluctant to take the attempts seriously. Can she identify the source of these threats before she becomes the latest victim. It hurts to say this but I found this book to be drivel. It tried to be both a thriller and a romance and failed in both regards. I have always enjoyed Gerritsen’s Rizzoli and Isles series of books but I have to say reading across her book range has been extremely disappointing. I think I will take a brief rest from her books for the foreseeable future.
