David Morrell has not lost his touch. The story kept
your interest all the way through the book, suspense great,
and didn't know the end half way through as with most books
lately. Thank you David and keep them coming.

Love the Catholic monastic element and its blending with history [he Crusades], and the one man against the odds modern day espionage. First David Morrell book I ever read. Have read it over and over through the years. Part of my favorite trilogy by D. Morrell: "Brotherhood of the Rose," "Fraternity of the Stone," and "League of Night and Fog."

Slow to start but got interesting to point where I just had to keep reading to find out what was to happen, So it got me in which means I liked it

I'm sure if you are young enough you will really like this novel. Regrettably I am not. If you are a fan of super dudes who come equipped with every kind of talent for every kind of situation who can overcome every kind of obstacle then this is your book. Also to enjoy this book you will need to be a believer in the wildest kind of conspiracy theories. Let me just say that if you believe in either angles, devils, zombies, vampires or even ninjas this is your book

This is an early work by Morrell. While it is a good read it is not up to the standards of his later work.

From the writer of the original book that brought us Rambo. His main characters are almost always damaged and seeking redemption in solace.
The solace is usually broken by some evil entity and the fun (for the reader) ensues!
I highly recommend this to any reader that loves Rambo or Bourne type novels.

I own the paperback of this great book and so it was natural to buy a 'proper' copy of the ebook for the Kindle only to find 9 errors before I am even half way through, that were not in the original book. I don't know how Amazon creates ebooks e.g. by scanning etc, but this copy didn't impress one bit. And guess what, no returns on ebooks! I feel pretty conned to be honest, and not what I expect from Amazon.

i had the hard copy of this years ago and enjoyed re reading this again. would recommend it to the adventure thriller types.

David Morrell succeeds yet again in writing a suspenseful thriller that keeps you guessing from cover to cover. Just when you start to think you have it all figured out, he turns the story on its head and plunges you deeper into the web.

Have been looking for this book for a while, it is part of a trilogy. It was advertised as good condition but I would say it was fair.
Have enjoyed reading it.

the setting is really cool, and the writing is good also.

This Book was "riveting"! I had a hard time putting it down. Loved the Characters too. I hope David writes MORE like the "Fraternity of the Stone" and "The Brotherhood of the Rose". This writer doesn't need to go on Vacation, he has fun just sitting home and thinking! If you enjoy Spy Novels, you will want to read this book.

One of the highlight books of my reading list. Great depth of writing and a hard book to put down.

I read this book to complete the trilogy . Started with the brotherhood of the rose. I'm a big action adventure spy reader. The book did not disappoint. He did irritate me some in the middle with the main chacarter double guessing his double guessing... Thought it bogged down the story some. Reminded me of filler material. Overall I enjoyed the book and would not hesitate to recommend it.

I was first "introduced" to David Morrell's writing through The Brotherhood of the Rose (my personal favorite among spy/espionage novels) not knowing that he also had written First Blood and several others. My reading choices are random and subject to my mood of the moment, yet I'll read BOTR, Fraternity of the Stone, and the companion book The League of Night and Fog time and time again - Morrell's style keeps me entranced and entwined within the stories - almost as if I'm living the events depicted fist-hand.

Thrilling adventure featuring Drew MacLane is a star agent in Scalpel. clandestine, government-sanctioned organization of assins and he wants out. Renouncing violence he retreats to a monastery, where for six years he lives the life of a hermit. But then someone tracks him down, leaving an ungodly trail of bodies. Someone who knows all about him-and will stop at nothing to destroy him. Drawn back into that electrifying world where no one is as he seems. Fast paced, plot twisting, adventure. I also purchased "Brotherhood of the Rose" and "The League of Night Night and Fog" featuring some of these same characters and loved all three. I would be pleased if at some point Morrell would continue their story.

Und wieder einmal wird die Geschichte des Einzelkämpfers erzählt, der sich ins Kloster (Rambo III) zurückzieht um mit einer Vergangenheit abzuschließen, die ihn dann doch einholt. David Morrell erzählt eine solide Geschichte, die so schon zigmal vor und nach diesem Werk erzählt wurde.

Das Buch wurde 1985 geschrieben. Geboten werden Verfolgungen, Kämpfe, Rückblenden, bis hin zum (mittel)großen Showdown. Das Übliche eben. Alles in allem sicher kein schlechtes Buch, aber die Story bietet einfach nichts außergewöhnliches.

Das Wort "Meterware" fällt mir dazu ein. Bücherwürmer haben nichts zu verlieren, wer aber denkt, dass genau dieses Buch die perfekte Wahl für die einzige Urlaubswoche sei, der könnte enttäuscht werden.
