Ho comprato questo libro, nella versione in inglese e usato, perchè avevo letto La Confraternita della Rosa che mi era piaciuto moltissimo e siccome nei commenti che ho trovato sul web si diceva che questo libro, insieme a The League of Night and Fog, costituirebbe una trilogia, pensavo che potesse essere il seguito della Confraternita della Rosa. Così non è. Si tratta di un'altra storia, con personaggi differenti, sebbene sempre ambientata nel mondo dello spionaggio. Rispetto alla Confraternita della Rosa, però, c'è un abisso sia come ritmo che come interesse negli argomenti trattati. Gli unici momenti un po' più di richiamo sono quelli in cui viene descritto l'addestramento del protagonista nell'arte del borseggio e del combattimento al buio. Per il resto è abbastanza noioso, almeno per me. Ho dovuto comprare la versione in lingua inglese perchè non ne ho trovato alcuna edizione in italiano e forse, dopo averlo letto, mi spiego pure il perchè. Oltre a questo, segnalo che il libro che mi è stato inviato è appartenuto a una libreria pubblica, la Woods Hole Public Library, come risulta evidente dai vari timbri della stessa che appaiono in varie parti del libro. L'ho cercata sul web ed esiste ancora. Non so, quindi, se trattasi di una copia dismessa da questa libreria o di un suo libro rimasto a qualche lettore e poi finito nel giro dei libri usati.
Se avessi saputo qualcosa di più sulla trama e sui personaggi non lo avrei comprato

story and plot are OK nothing great and the flow of the novel is some what boring.

Bought as a present for father, as he loves reading books by this author. He was very pleased with his gift.

Fraternity of the Stone is the weakest of the three books. Drew is a monk who used to be a covert operative for the State Dept.

His monastary is destroyed but he survives and he embarks out to find out why?

The plot takes many elements from the Brotherhood of the Rose.

But Drew and Arlene are not fleshed out the way Saul and Erika were, so you can't invest in the,

Started out strong but after awhile it was difficult to suspend disbelief, the book not tightly edited, and the storyline was not smoothly drawn. I did not care much about the main character.

Not a riveting read. Too much time spent trying to analyse the physical and mental thought pattern and skills of a trained killer. Became almost repetitive.
Couldn't wait to finish the book, to move on.

a bit simplistic

Although the Brotherhood of the Rose is the real next to last penultimate rewriting. I think the plot lines are thin, and the angst suffered by Chris in the "...Rose," and Drew in this novella are at best mirror images, this one has redeeming characteristics. The descriptions of fighting with total sensory deprivation are outstanding.

The orphan child guided by the loving but sinister foster-father indicates a lack of imagination by the author, or formula writing makes sequels. This segment was as one dimensional as its predecessor but had greater detail to the scenario. And least I forget, the woman with the great body figures prominently here too, except she has a different name. Form before function!

On to the expected last book by this author I intend to read.

Expected more from the plot. Formula adventure story with little in the way of surprises. Too many contrived situations and not enough imagination.

The book started with a flourish but did not finish in the same style. An OK read but would not put it up there with the better ones of the author that I have read.

i liked it, quite nice, enough fast but i think that The Brotherhood of the Rose was a better book

I read this because I was told that Morrell is one of the ultimate writers of the American patriot/hero type of book. I disagree. Not at all believable. Seemed to be made up as he went along. Sorry, but no more Morrell for me.

I'm sure if you are young enough you will really like this novel. Regrettably I am not. If you are a fan of super dudes who come equipped with every kind of talent for every kind of situation who can overcome every kind of obstacle then this is your book. Also to enjoy this book you will need to be a believer in the wildest kind of conspiracy theories. Let me just say that if you believe in either angles, devils, zombies, vampires or even ninjas this is your book
