この作者の名前にちなんで付けられたそうです。
戦前は大変な人気作家だったようですが、戦後の知名度がいまひとつなのは、戦争協力者であったことが災いしているのかもしれません。

この作品も戦意高揚小説と言っていい内容で、現代の感覚で読むと違和感を感じる箇所がいくつかあります。人によっては、表現に不快感を覚えるかもしれません。
とはいっても、ストーリーは一気に読ませる面白さで、当時の少年たちの熱狂振りが分かる気がします。ある意味、時代が生んだ小説と言えるかもしれません。
また、今でいう「メガフロート空母」の構想を、７０年前に先取りした先見性は、やはり大したものと言うべきでしょう。

当時としては、ＳＦ小説とスパイ小説のハイブリットとして受け止められたのでしょうが、リアリティのある冒険小説がお好きの方にお勧めしたいです。

There are too many ways to spoil the read so I'm just going to say it is the best book I've read in the mystery category in a long time.
I have already purchased 2 copies to send as gifts to friends and got the audible version so I can listen in the car on my commute to work.

OK, so I read before I go to bed. I found myself saying "I'm going to bed" earlier and earlier every night knowing I had this book to read.

What I do know is that you will not be able to put this book down.
I read this book in two nights, although it too until 4 a.m one night (couldn’t stop). I wouldn’t mind reading about these people again. There was a lot left open for further development.
I will go back and write a more exhaustive review in a better format.
