| I literally sat and stared into space for an hour after I finished this book, contemplating it and wishing it hadn’t ended. I may just have to re-read it. This is the second book I have read in this series and it is a quick read like her first book. This book is captivating from the first page to the last. So many times I wanted to reach into the book and talk to my mom! | ||||

| I chose this book out of the 6 options for the Kindle First Reads Program. I didn't expect to like it thinking it was a fantasy based book which is not my usual choice but the others did not catch my interests at all It's not a book about happy endings, rather, it's a book about how complex life in a small town can be, when it seems like everything should be so simple. I found this approach to be deeply soothing and engaging, in a way that touched me deep in my core. | ||||

| I devoured this book the first time through because I had to know what happened in it I loved this book. I notice that some of the negative reviews thought the narrative was improbable and they did not like the ending. This book has given me more than I could have asked for. This book if for all the struggling souls in the internet age. | ||||

| I gave this book five stars because it was a thoroughly enjoyable read. I have never been disappointed by this author's books. Unfortunately, now I have to wait for the next one. It's one of those books where you can start at the beginning middle or end and enjoy it every time. I bought a few copies as gifts for my kids' history teacher, math teacher, and language teacher. Also, a gift for my uncle and for one of my friends. Recommended. | ||||

| I knew nothing else about it and that served me well as I did not know there was a big surprise twist coming. Wow. Hated to see intend. Almost too gruesome, in parts, seriously, thought I couldn't continue. Glad I did tho. Crazy characters, for sure. This book deserves all the rave reviews and attention it is getting | ||||

| Though I am an avid reader, I have difficulties lately in falling into a book. Within a couple of pages or a chapter, I lose focus or interest and put down whatever I’m reading. What a wonderfully new subject for a book. This book was very well written! I might have just finished my favorite read of 2018. This will be hard to top. My recommendation couldn't be any higher -- and sometimes it is just enough to say "read this book -- don't hesitate." | ||||

| I look forward to re-reading this book again and reviewing all of my highlighted sections. Before reading this book, I did some research about the author and listened to a few of interviews. Stayed up way too late reading. I couldn't put this down. Enjoyable, timely, and fulfilling. Five stars plus. | ||||

| One of my favorites read in 2018! ENJOY. DOES NOT DISAPPOINT. I don't usually select contemporary books unless they're mysteries and or crime. I choose this as a First Reads and it's been waiting on my Kindle for a couple of months. Finally got around to starting and it grabbed me from the first page. | ||||

| いわゆる怪奇・犯罪ものでおどろおどろしい内容ですが、文章が美文体で不思議な優雅さがあります。 何十年も前の小説ですがテンポもよくどんどん読み進められます（短編です） 青空文庫がキンドルで読めるとはありがたく、また入力ボランティアの方々の尽力でこうやって昔の作品が今読めると思うと改めて感謝です。 | ||||

| 書庫整理のため再読． 犯罪実話集． 記録性より物語性のほうを重視． そのため，事実関係では些か頼りなし． たとえばマタ・ハリ． 本書では一種の冒険譚のようにマタ・ハリの活躍を描いているが，実際には彼女にはスパイとしての実績は殆ど無かったと言われている． ▼ 本書は連載の最初のほうのものを収録したためか，事件も有名どころが多し． 上述のマタ・ハリもそうだし，切り裂きジャックやフリッツ・ハールマンも連続殺人分野では超有名人． 日本で知られていない事件と言えば，誘拐事件や詐欺事件くらいか． 特に切り裂きジャック事件は比較的多くの研究書が邦訳でも出されているため，今日では残念ながら，それ目的でわざわざ本書を読む必要性が乏しい． ▼ 以下，特に興味を引いた点； ・警察による銃撃が事件解決を妨げたという，チャーリー・ロス誘拐事件の皮肉な結末（p.66） ・頑丈そうな金庫が見かけの信用を担保してしまった，「ウンベルトの百万ポンド事件」（p.118） ・「夫人は，時には妹のマリイ・ドルニャックを表面に立て，ロマンとエミルの2人の兄弟の助力を借りて，宣伝に宣伝を重ね，年中行事的に，海の向こうのクロウフォウドの甥を相手に，金庫を開けることの請求を裁判に持ち出しながら，いや，正確には，そういう裁判が進行していると称しながら，この大芝居を打ち続けたのだ． 金庫は今にも開けていいようなことになるかと思えば，また突如として当分開けられないことになったりして，常にパリ人をやきもきさせた」（p.133） ・「『死んだやつは，死んだやつさ』 When they're dead they're dead」（p.146） ・「殺人鬼とか殺人鬼とかいうこの類型に属する犯人には精神異常者が多いというが，このジョウジ・ジョセフ・スミスは例外だった． 細心をきわめた手口を観てもわかるように，彼はじつに組織的な，時としてはるかに普通人を凌駕する明晰な頭脳の所有者だった． 普段は怠惰なくせに，『浴槽の花嫁』の場合にだけ，異様に敏活巧緻に働くのだから，その点がすでに病的だといえばいえるけれど，彼の日常の言動を精査しても，何度専門家が鑑定しても，何ら精神的反応を呈さずに報告はいつもネガチヴだった」（p.165） ▼ 気軽な読み物としてなら． 【関心率1.724％：全ページ中，当方が個人的に，手元に残したいページがどれだけあるかの割合．当方の主観基準】 | ||||

| 牧逸馬のファンである。だから牧が書いた物に文句があるわけではない。この出版社の商売のやり方に問題があるというだけだ。 一言でいうと詐欺である。 上の内容紹介には、「女肉を料理する男」ほか、世界怪奇実話８編を収録、と書いてあるが、実際には表題の「浴槽の花嫁」一篇しか収録されていない。 １００円のものと６００円のものがあり、６００円の方の内容紹介に「８篇を収録」と書いてあれば、８篇入っていると思うのが普通の頭を持った人間だが、実際には１篇しか入っていないのだ。 繰り返すが、こういうのを詐欺という。だから買ってはいけない。 | ||||
